For over 160 years, there has been one day each year designated as Decoration Day at Mountain Home.

For almost a century, it was held on May 30th – regardless of what day of the week if fell. Then after the midpoint of the 20th Century, it was changed to be held on Sunday, before the National Memorial Day Holiday.

Decoration Day has a business meeting, church service, and dinner on the grounds. It’s the one day each year that we can all come together and pay our respects to those who have already passed and spend time with friends and family.

When I was growing up, we never missed Decoration Day at Mountain Home. And we always carried food for the event. While I didn’t realize it at the time, those days were some of the most memorable.

In the same way I looked forward all year to a special dish for Christmas dinner with my family, I also looked forward to special dishes from several women I knew all my life. Most of them have been gone for years, but I still think about them, their love for the Lord, their family and friends, Mountain Home, their community, and their dedication to all of them.

And on and on the list goes……

We hope you’ll make plans to join us on May 25th at Mountain Home for the annual Decoration Day, and that you join us for lunch.
