Adopt a Grave

Adopt a Grave is a program that offers anyone the opportunity to adopt a grave and purchase flowers for the grave of people they choose for certain occasions during the year. This program is geared specifically at the following types of graves:

  • Those that have no known family remaining in the area
  • Those who had no family in the area when they died
  • Those that have not had flowers placed on them for an extended period of time
  • NOTE: Some of these graves are marked only with a stone, others are identified, including Civil War Veterans.

The Corporation will maintain a list of graves that are available for adoption on its website that anyone can choose to adopt one or more graves for a single year or for multiple years.

    Adopt a Grave Order Form

For each grave adopted, flowers will be placed on the grave for Decoration in late May and one other time during the year, such as birthday (if known), Christmas, Veteran's Day, Mother's Day, Father's Day, etc.

Specifically, this program is geared to seek adoption for those graves where there are no living family members and those buried are never remembered by the placement of flowers or other items of remembrance.

One or more members of the board and community volunteers will fill orders placed online and place the flowers or other remembrance items ordered and place on the grave it was ordered for on the date requested (provided the order was made at least 14 days in advanced).

The Corporation will secure the supplies required at the most economical costs and labor will be donated.

    Why are we doing this?

Offering an opportunity to pay respects and remembrance for those without family in the area to do so is a way to share thanks for God’s blessings, thanks for the lives of those buried in the adoptive graves, and a way to contribute to the ongoing work of preserving all aspects of Mountain Home for future generations. This program will contribute to deepening the bonds of community, restores a long-ago tradition of placing flowers or other items of remembrance on every grave, provides an avenue for service to those that can adopt one or more graves but are unable to contribute labor to support the work needed to restore and maintain the cemetery.

Further, a portion of the amount collected for each order will be used to support other maintenance related programs.
