Everything we undertake requires money to secure materials and supplies, and none of that would be possible without people willing to contribute to the cause!

The donations received helped to cover the monetary costs of materials and supplies and the volunteers gave their time to complete the work required. It is humbling to see what has been accomplished in the past year because of all contributions.

In 2024, we received monetary contributions from 1 Private Foundation, 2 Private Companies, and 4 individuals. Total Contributions in 2024 were $14,955.00. We also have 2,277 documented volunteer hours expended to complete the work undertaken. Those hours resulted in a dollar value of $70,175.09. This is calculated using $30.82 per hour which is specific for the State of Alabama using information from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics which tracks these matters. Our volunteers are invaluable as the work performed far outweighs the financial means available to us.

2024 accomplishments…

  • Received our Nonprofit Charity Exemption letter from the IRS.
  • Filed the required reporting with the State of Alabama and the U.S. Treasury.
  • Built and launched the www.HeirsOfMountainHome.org website.
  • Set up a corporate account with PayPal so we could accept online contributions. (Between April and December 2024, we received 8 separate donation transactions via our PayPal donation button)
  • We invested $2,500.00 in a Certificate of Deposit and earned a little over $100 in interest during 2024.
  • Purchased two 10’x10’ Tents (easy set-up) for use as Refreshments area at the Veterans Tribute in November, but available for use at any event
  • Purchase of a wireless microphone, wireless speakers, a wall canvas for the sanctuary, and a flag display case (to display the American Flag we were presented by the Ider Honor Guard Team at the 2024 Veterans Tribute Event. The flag will be displayed in the sanctuary of Mountain Home.
  • Purchased a 6’x10’ American Flag along with cord and pully to make repairs required when a storm in March brought down the flag in front of the church.
  • Small black granite markers (along with mounting tape, QuickCrete and rocks for permanent placement) were purchased for 15 Veterans who died before 1990. 1990 is the cutoff by the Veterans Administration for providing a foot marker or headstone. Those Veterans do qualify for a Medallion, which has been ordered for 13 which we have adequate records required by the VA.
  • Purchased permanent visual aid signs for use at our Annual Tribute to Veterans
  • Purchased supplies and cleaned all grave markers in the cemetery twice during the year, once in April and again in October.
  • Purchased QuickCrete and used to raise four markers that were below ground level.
  • Assisted four families in submitting applications to the Veterans Administration for the provision of a foot marker detailing the military service of their family member. Additionally, 4 applications were started prior to the end of the year and will be submitted during the first quarter of 2025.
  • Paid for the materials required to replace the top of the outdoor dining table that was resurfaced by local volunteers in April.
  • Purchased some advertising signs and cards to promote the Veterans Tribute event for 2024 and 2025, banners announcing the Annual Decoration in 2025, letterhead and business cards, and various supplies to support the ongoing work of the nonprofit.
  • Through research we identified 5 Veterans buried in the cemetery that had no indication of service at their grave. (Since November 2021, we have identified 29 Veterans buried at Mountain Home that have no marker at their grave indicating their military service).
  • Purchased required materials and supplies for the Annual Tribute to Veterans, including some of the refreshments, the small American Flags for each Veteran grave at Mountain Home, small gifts for Veterans attending this year’s event and a small token for the family members of a Veteran.
  • Hosted the 4th Annual Tribute to Veterans, with the largest crowd so far. There were more than 25 Veterans in attendance and near 150 people total that were present for the event.
  • Meals were prepared for four families in the community when a loved one had passed. These families did not have a home church, and we took up that effort to let them know their neighbors cared about them and that they are loved by God. We do this just as the example set for us by the founding generations.
  • Bibles were given to 6 people in the community who did not have one and expressed a desire to have one. There is no greater gift we can provide than to place the Word of God — the Holy Bible into the hands of a person who doesn’t have one.

We hope you feel we have been good stewards of the donations received and want to thank everyone who contributed in dollars or time sincerely for them.

With our most sincere thanks,

The Heirs of Mountain Home
